Bicycle Sport Shop University

Bicycle Sport Shop University classes are taught by our professional shop mechanics. We currently offer free, weekly maintenance tutorials, as well as basic and advanced courses for $50 and $75 respectively.

While we regularly add classes to our schedule to try to meet the year-round needs of customers, we also offer one-on-one instruction with a custom curriculum to match very specific interests.  The cost of the private classes is $75 per hour. Free Maintenance Tutorials

Our weekly, free maintenance tutorial covers wheel removal, tire change, proper cleaning and lubrication and what you need to take with you on every ride. You'll learn the basics to keep your bike rolling safely and smoothly.

Class Locations & Times

Tuesdays at 9900 W. Parmer Lane, 6 to 7 pm
Wednesdays at 10947 Research Blvd., 6 to 7 pm
Thursdays at 517 S. Lamar Blvd., 6 to 7 pm

We also offer a free, women-only maintenance class on the first Wednesday of the month from 5:30 to 7 pm at our Lamar location.

Women-Only Tutorials

On the First Wednesday of each month we offer a free basic maintenance tutorial which covers proper cleaning, lubrication, what to pack in your saddlebag, wheel removal, and hands-on flat repair. We'll be sure to make time for Q&A at the end.

Bring your front bicycle wheel with you. If you are unable to do so, we have a limited number of loaners.

These classes are tailored specifically to women. As the name suggests, only women are allowed to attend these BSSU classes.

Basic Tune-Up Classes

In addition to the free maintenance tutorials, we also provide basic and advanced tune-up classes for a fee. These courses provide hands-on instruction, and participants work on their own bikes in class. For the cost of a single tune-up, you will leave the class with the skills needed to service your own bicycle.

Our maintenance class series includes a Basic Tune-Up Class, which covers the following:
 
    •    Bearing Adjustment Check
    •    Bolt Check
    •    Cable Lube
    •    Deraileur Adjustment
    •    Brake Adjustment
    •    Wheel Truing Basics

Advanced Tune-Up Classes

We also offer an advanced tune-up class. Completion of the basic tune-up class is recommended before taking the more advanced class, which covers:

    •    Headset Adjustment
    •    Cassette or Freewheel Removal
    •    Hub Adjustment
    •    Lateral & Radial Wheel Truing
    •    Bar Wrap Tips

Bottom Bracket and Headset Overhaul Class

Our Bottom Bracket and Headset Overhaul Class covers:

  • Differences among bottom brackets
  • Crank removal, cleaning and adjustment
  • Bottom bracket or cups removal, cleaning and/or replacement
  • Bottom bracket reassembly
  • Preparing your bike for headset overhaul
  • Removal of top bearing cover, cone and bearing
  • Parts cleaning and/or replacement
  • Headset reassembly
